Tuesday 20th October 2015 at 6.00pm, sees the inaugural 18ThirtyFour Tea Appreciation Course commence. The five week, evening tutorial has been created to offer members of the public, hospitality staff, tea beginners, tea enthusiasts and the well-seasoned tea connoisseurs a chance to sit, sip and enjoy the company of like minded others.
If you would like to know the difference between a Mao Jin and a 1st flush Darjeeling, or whether you’re orange pekoe should come with a gentle background flavour of orange zest? Then this is the course for you. This course will allow a tea beginner to understand, and appreciate the differences of each style of tea, and how to brew them. For the enthusiast a chance to learn about the history or production methods of their favour style of tea. For the connoisseur, a chance to taste a variety of teas and discuss the intricacies of tea.
The course is presented by myself David Lyons, in the heritage Ainslie Room at the Mercure Hotel, Canberra. Each Tuesday evening we will take a look at a different style of tea, starting off with white tea, then green, oolong, black and flavoured teas. The course includes a handbook which has been created to work in conjunction with the course and as a comprehensive reference for future use. Over the five weeks we will taste a variety of teas from different tea companies, which relate to the given subject of that week. At the completion of the five week course, all attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.
